Bible Verses for Healing: Scripture for Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Wholeness
The Bible has profound things to say about healing — physical, emotional, and spiritual. The most powerful Scripture about healing with context that makes it meaningful.

Change your heart radically through the love of Jesus Christ.
Healing appears throughout Scripture — physical healing in the ministry of Jesus and the early church, emotional healing in the psalms of lament that process pain before God, and spiritual healing in the New Testament's understanding of salvation as the restoration of what was broken. The Bible's vision of healing is comprehensive — touching the whole person.
Physical Healing
James 5:14-15: "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven." The church is instructed to pray for healing — it is a feature of normal church life.
Isaiah 53:5: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." The foundational healing verse — Christ's wounds as the basis of our wholeness.
Psalm 103:2-3: "Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits — who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases." Two parallel acts of divine grace: forgiveness and healing.
Jeremiah 17:14: "Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise." A simple, direct prayer for healing.
Matthew 8:16-17: "When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.'"
Emotional and Inner Healing
Psalm 147:3: "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." God's healing extends to the broken heart — not just the broken body.
Isaiah 61:1-3: "The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners... to comfort all who mourn." Jesus read this in the synagogue and said "today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." The healing of the brokenhearted is Jesus's mission.
Psalm 34:18: "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Ezekiel 36:26: "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." God's inner healing reaches to the deepest level — the transformation of the hardened heart.
Spiritual Healing and Restoration
1 Peter 2:24-25: "He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls."
Acts 3:19: "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." Spiritual refreshment — restoration of soul — as a result of turning to God.
Romans 8:11: "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you." The same Spirit who raised Jesus inhabits your body — with healing implications.
The Eschatological Promise
Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." The ultimate healing — complete, universal, permanent — awaits the restoration of all things.
Revelation 22:2: "Down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations." The New Jerusalem includes the healing of nations — restoration of what was broken on the most comprehensive scale.
